UPSC has over the years remained one of the most prestigious and trying-to-attain jobs in India, because of which the Preliminary Examination of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is the first step in one of India’s most prestigious and challenging recruitment processes for civil services like the IAS, IPS, IFS, and others. Structure of the UPSC Prelims

The prelims consist of two papers conducted on the same day:

   • Number of Questions: 80
   • Duration: 2 hours
   • Qualifying Nature: Candidates need to score at least 33% to pass.

Key Features of the Prelims

• Objective Type: Both papers consist of multiple-choice questions (MCQs).
• Negative Marking: For every wrong answer, one-third of the marks allotted to the question are deducted.
• Screening Test: The marks obtained in Prelims are not counted for the final ranking. However, clearing this stage is mandatory to qualify for the Mains Examination.
